Abstract

Abstract (english)

This essay aims to show how the character of Bartleby, the protagonist of Melville’s novel, is a paradigmatic figure in Giorgio Agamben’s thought, as it contains and unveils fundamental themes and concepts of his reflection. In this regard, we will argue that Bartleby is, on the one hand, the keystone of Agamben’s thought, as it allows a reading of the concepts of potentiality, contingency and irreparable, and on the other hand, that the interpretation that Agamben provides of Bartleby can explain the charm and the mystery surrounding the figure of the scribe.
